Some our clients faced with error in Theme Options after theme update.
If after saving Theme Options you got error 404 for wp-admin/options.php (see it in your console or redirects to 404 page).
We can recommend you to reinstall WordPress. Usually it solve error and you can work on the site.
If reinstalling didn’t help, please, check your server configurations. Low server configurations also can provoke error.
To check server configurations go to Theme Options > System check > click on Start testing button. After testing you’ll see recommendations in red.
This error almost always comes down to an .htaccess issue. Please check with your host (or if using a local install, make sure it’s activated) the apache mod_rewrite module.
Note, that this settings should be set on server, but not in the .htaccess site.
Also, check your site with your host with FireWall Web Application and the mode security, which can be blocking the WordPress files.
If you tried all solutions mentioned in this article and nothing helped, please, mail us to [email protected], our support team will do our best to help you.

Hi, I’ve got this problem too.
I have reinstalled WordPress 4.4.2 though cPanel and manually – didn’t work.
Checked the .htaccess, it includes RewriteEngine On so Apache mod_rewrite should be activated – doesn’t work.
What can I do?
Sorry, I re-read and saw you said not to check via the .htaccess file. Will try and see how to check on the server, any ideas? I’m on Krystal hosting, with cPanel.

Hi, I too have this issue.
I reinstalled WordPress 4.5, which didn’t fix the issue.
I then did a full uninstall and reinstall directly from my hosting manager, which still didn’t fix the issue.
I performed the system check and have found the below configurations are lower than your recommended. Before I go through the whole process to have my provider adjust these settings, can you please tell me if these specific configurations may be the cause?
max_execution_time: 30 (Recomended min value 120)
max_input_vars: 1000 (Recomended min value 3000)
max_input_time: -1 (Recomended min value 60)
post_max_size value: 8M (Recomended min value 20M)
upload_max_filesize: 2M (Recomended min value 30M)
Cheers,
Tanja
Hello, TANJA!
The hoster of one of our clients (who had the same issue) mailed him this information:
“I’ve identified a false positive from our Web Application Firewall which was causing it to return HTTP 403 Forbidden in response to the POST request to /wp-admin/options.php. Your WordPress was catching these 403 errors and then returning its own HTTP 404 Not Found error instead for some reason.
I’ve disabled the rule in question for novem-it.co.uk/wp-admin/options.php and I am now able to save the theme options.
This was never a mod_rewrite issue though – there aren’t any rewrites configured in /wp-admin/ and /wp-admin/options.php is a file that exists, so there is no need to rewrite anything.”
Please, contact your hoster and ask him to do the same. This helped that client to get rid of the issue successfully.
Mail us about the results to [email protected]

I’m also getting the 403 Error page when I try to save Theme Options – please advise urgently.
Thanks,
T Barker
Hello, Tom!
As we can see the site works correct now. The issue was related to FireWall settings and was solved by the hoster.

Hi,
I just migrate the site to a server with PHP version 7.2, and it gives error 400. Does it means its not compatible with the PHP version?
Checked the htaccess and firewall, theres no block.
Thank you
Hello Shiny!
Please make sure you are using the latest theme, WordPress and plugins version. Latest theme version is compatible with the php 7.2. Try also to resave the Permalinks in Settings > Permalinks.
If all is up to date but the issue is still there, please, submit a ticket and provide us with the WP and FTP access details for checking.
Best regards,
DFD Team
